Our Background History

Malton Community Sports Centre (MCSC) opened on 28 February 2011 on the back of a £2.5million investment. The facility includes a 4 badminton court wide multi sport hall (33m x 18m), a climbing wall with 7 toplines, abseil route, 2m overhang and abseil / coaching cave, and a state of the art third generation (3G) astro turf football pitch. The centre also manages the use of the Malton School grass pitches, tennis/netball courts and existing school gymnasiums.

The purpose of the facility is to offer the whole community the opportunity to take part in a variety of sporting activities within a specialist built, high quality sports venue. Falling under the management of Malton School, MCSC is primarily used during the week days to host PE lessons and school competitions, with public use throughout the evenings and all weekend.

Funding for the project was sourced through a variety of partners including:

Ryedale District Council, The Football Foundation, Malton School, North Yorkshire County Council and The Derwent Sport Centre Association, who must be thanked for their long standing support and effort in making a community dream come to fruition, after 35 years of hard campaigning for this venue.

The MCSC weekly timetable of activities is growing and evolving continuously, whilst we also reserve booking slots for pay and play sessions for individual and group users. Classes offered include Circuit Training, Metabolic Effect training, Yoga, Fitness Pilates and soon to be added, TRX Suspension Training and circuit.

MCSC also runs weekly sports leagues: Malton Netball League is a female only indoor league utilizing the beautiful solid wood sprung court within the sports hall and currently has 8 teams registered. Malton Soccer Sixes is a small sided football league run on the 3G pitch. Both leagues are open to players age 16+ years.

The 3G also plays host to a variety of local clubs for training and match days. Supported by the Football Foundation, the 3G offers the latest in pitch technology, with the surface providing the most realistic performance of any artificial surface. It truly is as close as you can get to the best grass pitch, without having to worry about poor weather conditions.

Partnerships are also developing in cricket and basketball with the respective Governing Bodies of each sport and, MCSC will be playing host to regular coaching and performance sessions as well as becoming the local venue for Level One coaching awards.

One unique aspect of MCSC is the climbing wall (The Cave). Standing an impressive 8.5 metre high and 8 metre wide, the wall has 7 toplines, 12 climbing routes, an abseil coaching cave, 2 metre overhangs and provides a test to every level of climber. Open for taster sessions, coaching courses, birthday party bookings and competent individual led climbing; The Cave is a fantastic, challenging way to spend a few hours of leisure time. The Cave is currently in the process of becoming an ABC accredited facility.

Also on offer is a range of sporting birthday parties. From football parties to dogeball parties, dance parties to climbing parties, the qualified MCSC staff will lead your party of up to 12 before leading the group back to the seating area for you to host the party food and refreshments.

Throughout the week MCSC offers a variety of coach led activities for young people. Mini Kickers is a programme of 10 weekly soccer coaching sessions for children aged 3 to 6 and runs on the 3G pitch. Sessions after school include basketball and cricket nets.

MCSC also offers a programme of holiday activities during every school break. On offer to children aged 5 – 13 years are multi skills days, football coaching, dance and cheerleading, as well as specific taster sessions in sports such as climbing, dodgeball, cricket and basketball.
